1) FAT CAT AFFAIR – I Wonder
The latest single from Fat Cat Affair is just such an amazing song. “I Wonder” is an alternative pop track that mixes elements of classic rock with a hauntingly beautiful voice and an incredibly catchy chorus.
“One of my most poignant songs to date…” says Fat Cat, “I wrote this with a fellow band member as a tribute to a beautiful singer we used to work with. The track is a memorial of sorts, a homage to love lost and opportunities missed.”
The song “I Wonder” is a smooth, soulful, RnB collaboration with gospel undertones, which was recorded in Japan by a very talented American singer, Costie Payne.
It was recorded in Riga and features performances from a group of younger choir members from the Riga Cathedral Choir School. In addition to Fat Cat, other musicians joined the team to help arrange and polish the track, adding new sections and a drum track.

2) STRAYLOVE – Eclipse
The Straylove duo consists of Miguel Couto and Nicolás Rodrguez who combine hazy psychedelic textures with synth wave and dream-pop aesthetics in a way that’s highly distinctive.
There has recently been the announcement of a new album by the duo titled eclipse, which offers an insight into the duo’s creativity and vision for dreamy psychedelic textures and indie-inspired melodies that shape their music.
The purpose of Eclipse was to create a very soothing, organic, and dynamic sonic tapestry (with live drums driving the arrangement, over a layer of tastefully executed synthesizer lines, and amazing layers and effects on the vocals) so that the listener can experience a more immersive listening experience.
There is no doubt that stray love created a very soothing and dynamic sonic tapestry with this song, making the listening experience so much more immersive.
It has an organic sound to it, with live drums driving the arrangement, and layered over a variety of tastefully executed synth lines and other instruments, eclipse has a really organic feel to it.

3) CAMENS – Jacket Weather
There is no surprise that the Stoke-based four-piece Camens are looking to do much the same this year, especially considering that they started off the year with a bang and things only got louder as the year progressed.
Indeed, with their last three singles racking up over 130,000 plays on Spotify, not to mention their national and international radio support that spans Amazing Radio UK and USA, BBC Introducing and XS Manchester, the latter showcasing the band’s song Poltergeist as their Track of the Week, it is clear that they are making serious inroads and are capturing the heart of the UK’s thriving indie scene as they do so.
The band continued to build on their success with the release of their brand new single called ‘Jacket Weather’. It is an optimistic ode to the fleeting escapes that the right person can provide for you when you meet them.
The song provides listeners with two-and-a-half minutes of technicolour respite from the grey monotony of everyday life when it comes to relaxing music.

4) PIPERLAIN – Shine On You
As well as being inspired by nature, this band is also inspired by human nature. It has been said that Piperlain writes quirky songs with universal themes, often described as evocative folk/rock/pop songs that are often described as ’emotive’.
The ‘Shine on You’ EP is about ‘lost and found’, experiencing loss of relationships and disillusionment due to the pressures placed on us by social media, as well as lost during the recent Covid-19 pandemic.
With a more organic sound, ‘Shine on You’ was recorded on location in the Warrumbungle National Park, surrounded by nature and farmland, capturing the essence of the location.
There is no doubt that ‘I Feel the Sun’, the opening track of the album, is a positive and uplifting song that blends acoustic beach vibes and folk elements with dreamy rock-pop influences. This song was inspired by coming out of the Covid-19 lockdown when people were able to move around freely again after the lockdown.

5) JAY ROECKER – A New Day For You
If you’re into new waves, synth waves, alternative pop, vocal dance/EDM, and euphoric pop music, then you’ll love this single from Austin-based artist JAY ROECKER.
The track is called A New Day For You and is an infectious blend of pop and electronic dance music that will have you singing along to the catchy chorus in no time.
Taking a modern approach to the New Wave music genre and introducing an introspective perspective so that you can look inside and achieve the goals you set for yourself.
It’s easy to see why this song has been getting so much attention: it’s super catchy and upbeat. It’s got a great beat that will make you want to dance around the house while washing dishes or doing the laundry.

6) CLEO HANDLER – Gold
Cleo Handler, a long-time lyricist in the Advanced BMI Songwriting Workshop and a respected independent filmmaker, is an LA native who lived in Brooklyn for a decade, but recently returned to her hometown to record “gold” at Wild Horizon Studios in Hollywood.
A large part of the meaning of the album “gold” can be found in what is gained when everything is lost. There is a rawness about the production, honest storytelling, and deeply personal lyrics in this album that explore the loss of love, community, reality, and even your idea of who you are, and it is also kind of fun to listen to as well. As for the album itself, it’s a breakup album, yes.
“This album – and accompanying lyric videos – were born out of necessity, in the aftermath of an extremely disorienting, sudden breakup with my long-term (musician) partner. The writing was the only thing that kept me afloat, and the overpowering urge to channel my own music was the only thing that made sense…”

7) ASAF ASHKENAZY – Dog In Yard
ASAF ASHKENAZY is a singer-songwriter from Israel, and he released another EP, Dog In Yard. The EP includes five tracks that showcase Asaf’s unique blend of classic rock, pop rock, and folk rock. The music is easy to listen to and has an indie feel.
An EP with this level of clarity and crispness is not overproduced or polished to the point where it becomes dull. Having instrumental breakdowns to break up the songs at the appropriate time adds a great deal of variety to the songs without feeling forced or extraneous.
My favourite song from the EP is ”Cool Wind”. It’s an easygoing song with a great vibe to it, I love it and I think it’s very suitable for a late-night drive with friends around the city!
It’s got a lot of power—the vocals are strong and clear, and the instrumentals are well-balanced between guitars, bass and drums. The whole album also has a great tempo that keeps things moving along nicely throughout the whole EP.

8) ATOMIC BRONCO – Fly Away
Atomic Bronco is an American indie rock artist from Austin, Texas. Their single, “Fly Away,” is a melodic and relaxing pop song that will make you feel like flying away from your troubles.
He released a single for the first time in the year 2023 called Fly Away, and I believe it may be my favourite song that he has ever released. An almost brooding indie rock tune with very understated vocals, it’s a very dark and brooding tune.
A track with this level of clarity and crispness is not overproduced or polished to the point where it becomes dull. Having instrumental breakdowns to break up the songs at the appropriate time adds a great deal of variety to the songs without feeling forced or extraneous.

9) ARN-IDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECTS AND ALIEN FRIENDS – Some Angels Never Learn To Fly
ARN-IDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECTS AND ALIEN FRIENDS (Arne Floryd) is a Swedish singer-songwriter who has been making music for some time now. His new single, Some Angels Never Learn To Fly, is a classic example of Britpop at its best.
During rehearsals, Arne created this song – more or less improvising, as he went along – on a whim, though the lyrics were written a few weeks later after he had rehearsed the song.
”David Myhr (of The Merrymakers) shares lead vocals with me on this one. – I was quite proud of the tonal change between verse and chorus (a key lowering instead of an expected key rise). I also kind of like the restraint playing and instrumentation.” – Says Arne.
A track with this level of clarity and crispness is not overproduced or polished to the point where it becomes dull. Having instrumental breakdowns to break up the songs at the appropriate time adds a great deal of variety to the songs without feeling forced or extraneous.
