A Unique Indie Rock Debut Defies Expectations

From Columbus, OH, United States, comes the indie rock band You Me & Kyle. The group, formed by Henry Hutton and Tony Sharpe, is gaining attention with their debut album, “They Promised Us There Would Be Flying Cars“. The two musicians met at a Star Trek convention. They share a strong love for rock music.

The pair has written and played over 60 original songs. Following Sharpe’s solo work in 2023, the two combined to release their awaited album on October 15, 2024. The sound defies the usual standards. You Me & Kyle have made a unique musical experience. Press play to hear the album we’re talking about.

“They Promised Us There Would Be Flying Cars” shows the power of distance work. Hutton and Sharpe used iCloud to share files during the process. This inventive method helped them join their talents. The result is a set of tracks with energy plus an innovative sound. You can listen to our full playlist which contains the artist’s music, and know more about the artist’s work by scrolling down the page.

The Genesis of You Me & Kyle

The tale of You Me & Kyle is as interesting as the tunes. Tony Sharpe, singer and guitarist, says, “We worked with talented musicians from The Executives but Henry and I changed the project. It became just us. Henry said to me ‘Well, it is just you, me as well as Kyle now.’ The name just stuck”. This moment shows their teamwork: friendship, imagination plus a bit of fun.

The album came together in Hutton’s home studio in Raleigh, NC as well as Sharpe’s home studio in Columbus, OH. Jonathan Hose mixed the album at SonicMix Studios. This DIY way shows the band’s dedication to their art. Every note shows their creative spirit.

You Me & Kyle’s work is fresh in the alternative rock world. They make songs with a young feel, despite their experience. This is notable! They get ideas from Destroy Boys, The Beaches, Wet Leg, EKKSTACY, Militairie Gun, Hard-Ons, ALEXSUCKS, also Dexter and The Moonrocks. You Me & Kyle have made a sound that feels both familiar and new. It is a sound that fits next to Arctic Monkeys and The Killers but it remains uniquely You Me & Kyle.

The making of the album is a story of new ideas plus freedom. “This album was conceived, written along with created with file sharing via iCloud,” said the band. By themselves, Hutton and Sharpe would make the music for their tracks. Sharpe added guitar parts. Hutton added bass parts.

Sharpe wrote all the words, also recorded his lead singing. Hutton added background singing. They shared the files to mix for mastering. This careful way is clear in each track, showing their focus on making great music. From the set of eight tracks on “They Promised Us There Would Be Flying Cars,” “Flying Cars,” “The Side Of The Road,” and “Running Away” really stand out in our new releases spotlight.

As a team from PopHits.Co, we like “They Promised Us There Would Be Flying Cars” plus the talent of You Me & Kyle. The album proves they can mix classic rock ideas with a current indie rock feeling.
