A Five Track Debut with Two Takes Cut Live in the Studio

The guitars on the EverFelt EP arrive before anything else does, and they arrive with the room still audible around them. Two of its five tracks are labelled live in the studio. That small credit tells you most of what the band wants from a recording. EverFelt released the self-titled EP in July 2024. It remains the clearest statement of what this American psychedelic groove metal band sounds like when nothing is cleaned up.

EverFelt’s music is in the playlist below, and the band’s full run of coverage sits on their artist profile. The EverFelt EP reached this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news desks. Turn it up and listen through, then read on.

The Groove-Heavy Psychedelic Wave That Runs From Kyuss To Now

A long line of bands decided that the riff, not the chorus, is the load-bearing part of a rock song. Kyuss made that argument in the California desert in the early nineties, with amps run through a generator. Those recordings kept the fuzz and the drift rather than trimming them. What came out of it was a template. Slow the tempo, widen the low end, and let a figure repeat until the repetition itself becomes the hook.

Queens of the Stone Age took the same instinct somewhere tighter and more mechanical. Soundgarden reached a related place from the other side of the country. They bent 90s alternative rock around odd meters, over a vocal that could carry a heavy arrangement without shouting.

Where The EverFelt EP Fits On That Line, And What It Takes From It

That is the wave EverFelt are riding. The band, formed in 2022, describe their own music as groove weaponised as dread, with the riff crawling before it erupts. That is a fair account of the record. It is heavy without being fast, and the psychedelic element shows up as space and repetition rather than as effects.

The five tracks are Into The Fire, Six One Bravo, Gave it All Away, The Lie and River. The arrangements leave room around the riffs. The tempos stay in the pocket rather than pushing. The record does not reach for polish it does not need, which is a considered position on a debut.

Why Two Live Takes Matter On A Debut Like The EverFelt EP

Two of the five, Into The Fire and Gave it All Away, are credited as live in the studio. That is the most revealing decision on the release.

A live take is a commitment. The rhythm section had to hold the groove in real time. Whatever the amp did in the room is what ended up on the record. For a young band that carries risk, because a live take exposes anything that is not solid. It is also the fastest way to make a debut sound like a band rather than a project.

From the IndieRock.News curator team: “Crediting two of five tracks as live in the studio is a statement of intent on a debut. Most bands hide the room. Putting it on the sleeve tells you they think the room is part of the music, and on this EP they are right.”

The Classic Rock Inheritance, And Where To Hear The EverFelt EP

The classic rock inheritance is worth naming, because it does real work here rather than sitting in a press description. Solos sit inside the arrangement instead of arriving as a feature. Songs run past the point where a modern rock single would have cut them. That is a seventies habit filtered through nineties production values, and much of why the EP reads as older than the band is.

For a listener the placement is straightforward. If the heavy, unhurried end of 90s rock is where you live, this is a five track entry point. It rewards a second pass. The riffs that seem simple first time round are usually doing something slightly odd with the bar.

EverFelt have kept working since. The EP is the beginning of a catalogue rather than the whole of it, and it is still the right place to start.

The band are also on YouTube Music.

Keep up with EverFelt on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook, and their YouTube channel carries the video work.
