Husk Finds Scarecrowz in the Room, a Hard Rock Album with a Guitar Solo in Every Song
The Ottawa Band Pairs Shouted Choruses with Crusades, Motorbikes and a Farewell to the Fields
The first chorus on Husk is one word, shouted: “Clutter!”. The lyric sheet for that opening song then marks a bridge and a guitar solo. In fact, every one of the ten songs on the record has a solo on its sheet. Ottawa hard rock band Scarecrowz released the album Husk on 6 June 2025. Founder Ger Madden started the band in 2000, and the record follows those sheets closely: a hook, a story, then room for the lead guitar.
Scarecrowz’s Clutter sits in the playlist below, and the Scarecrowz artist profile collects the band’s full run of coverage. Husk reached this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news titles. Scarecrowz Build the Hooks on the Husk Album From One-Word Choruses and Spoken Bridges
The Hook
Clutter sets the template. Its chorus is the title and nothing else. The sheet then closes the song by repeating it four times. Scream Cycle goes a step further and breaks its own title into a stuttered chant. The hook becomes the name of the song, pulled apart over the guitars. You Don’t Know What I Mean takes the opposite route. Its four-line chorus repeats the title three times, then slips in a single line of doubt: “It isn’t what it seems”.
The album also uses the speaking voice as a hook. Degeneration starts with a one-line prologue before the first verse. Meanwhile, Khildren Of The Corn drops into speech twice, for its bridge and again for its closing lines. Elsewhere the songs move through verse, chorus and solo, so those spoken passages are where the record changes gear.

The Lyric
The subjects travel a long way from the opening track. Clutter is plain advice about letting go of whatever you carry around: “Toss it aside”. You Don’t Know What I Mean turns to the music business and warns that success arrives with its own pitfalls. Scream Cycle is a motorbike song with a double meaning the band makes no effort to hide. It is all burning rubber, with “no turning back” at the centre of its highway bridge.
Two story songs take the record further afield. The Scythe takes place during the Crusades and declines to blame either side. Its last verse reaches for the Moors and El Cid. You’re Not Leaving Alive is a crime story. Its narrator never leaves the house unarmed, and a woman in the second verse wants out of the city. The chorus lands on a phrase western fans will know: “a fistful of dollars”.
Khildren Of The Corn says goodbye to rural life. It speaks to people who left the fields for a better life and never looked back. The closing track, Dark, ends the album on a plea rather than a fist in the air. Its refrain of “Reach in, reach out” comes from a place where the light is too far away to see.

The Scarecrowz Album Husk Runs 45 Minutes, and the Band Recorded It Through a Year of Line-Up Changes
The Structure
Husk runs to ten songs and 45 minutes and 42 seconds. Six of the ten sit between four and five minutes. The shortest lasts three minutes and 27 seconds. You’re Not Leaving Alive is the longest, at five minutes and 53 seconds. It uses its guitar solo as the bridge. You Don’t Know What I Mean does something similar. Its sheet marks the bridge as a solo of four passes.
The running order puts the singles where they do the most work. On & On, the first single and video, sits third. Scream Cycle follows it, and the band now promotes that song as a single too. Degeneration was the second single, and its video arrived in the autumn of 2025. It sits ninth, one song before Dark closes the record.
The Room and the Credits
The band produced the album itself. Bass and drums came first, from January to March 2024. The band tracked them at bassist Trevor St. Peter‘s studio just outside town, with Aansen Harrison on drums. St. Peter left the band at the end of April 2024, and Zac Bryan joined a month later. Bryan plays bass on Degeneration. Lead guitarist Reno D’Santie oversaw the guitar sessions, and most of the guitars were in place by September 2024. The band finished recording in January 2025. Rohan Despande mixed and mastered it, and the cover artwork is by Rachael Chandler of Artistik Vibe.
The line-up has kept moving since. The drummer left shortly after the album came out. By the autumn of 2025, Kevin Tysick (bass and vocals) and Todd Campbell (drums) had joined Madden in the band. So the songs on Husk are the record of the line-up that tracked them.
Who the Scarecrowz Husk Album Is For
Scarecrowz describe their aim as modern rock with a classic rock feel, and they play in Drop C tuning. The lyric sheets on Husk follow the classic hard rock template of verse, chorus and lead break. Listeners who like big choruses and guitar solos in their heavy music will recognise the lineage. Scream Cycle sits in the tradition of Judas Priest. Their singer, Rob Halford, has ridden a motorbike on stage since the late 1970s. Similarly, The Scythe treats medieval history the way Iron Maiden treated the Crimean War on The Trooper in 1983.
For readers in Canada, and in Ottawa in particular, this is also a local record. The band has played the city’s circuit for more than two decades. Husk has been out since June 2025. Play it in order, from the shout of the opening chorus to the last refrain of Dark.
IndieRock.News curator team: “The line that stays with us comes near the end of Khildren Of The Corn. The fields have grown over and the scarecrows lie among the vines. In that image, Scarecrowz write their own name into a goodbye to the fields.”
