An Austin Art Rock Album That Sets Pulsing Industrial Rhythms Against Soaring, Melancholic Vocals

Fuzzy electronics, a thumping kit and crashing cymbals open Until It’s Over, the first track on Broken Paradigm. The guitars are right behind them. Razed by Rebels, the Austin project led by Jason Winfield, released the nine-track album on 15 November 2025. Guest vocals come from Hope Irish, Alva Sim and Alexandra Ayoob.

Razed by Rebels’ Until It’s Over sits in our Synth Rock playlist below. The Razed by Rebels artist profile gathers every article about the project. Broken Paradigm came to IndieRock.News through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news desks. Press play on Until It’s Over first, then read on for how the electronics and guitars fit.

Razed by Rebels Sets Pulsing Industrial Rhythms Against Aggressive Guitar Riffs Across Nine Tracks

The sound depends on how those electronics and guitars share the same half hour of industrial rock. The project describes it plainly. Its official biography talks about heavy, synth-driven electronics set against brooding, emotional alt-rock. It also promises aggressive guitar riffs, pulsing industrial rhythms and soaring, melancholic vocals. That is a fair map of the record. It shows why Broken Paradigm sits between several shelves at once: industrial rock, art rock and dark wave.

The Dutch review site De Ochtendschijn reached a similar reading in April. Its writer described a carefully built fusion of industrial intensity and melodic introspection. Driving rhythms, electronic parts and rock instrumentation are kept in balance. As a result, no single element pushes the others out of the mix. The review also noted how the album moves between raw energy and quieter, reflective passages. Restraint and melody supply the contrast.

The running order backs that up. Nine tracks fill just over 30 minutes, and the lengths swing widely. Beware the Hunters, the shortest, is over in a little more than two minutes. By contrast, Together We’ve Lost, the longest, runs past four, and Shattered Eyes is close behind it. Short bursts therefore sit next to longer builds. That keeps the industrial rock pace from settling into one setting for too long.

Hope Irish, Alva Sim and Alexandra Ayoob Change the Colour of Three Tracks on Broken Paradigm

The biggest changes in colour come from the voices. Razed by Rebels works as a collective rather than a fixed band. Three local guest vocalists appear in the album credits. Hope Irish sings on the opener, Until It’s Over. Alva Sim sings on The Nobodies, and Alexandra Ayoob joins on Together We’ve Lost. Each guest adds a second voice to Jason Winfield’s own. As a result, a song can shift mood without the band changing its instruments.

Two of those three tracks came out first. Until It’s Over arrived as a single in September 2025. Together We’ve Lost followed a month later, in October, before the full album landed in November. In other words, both singles introduced the project with a guest singer on the track. That choice shows how central the extra voices are to the plan.

The Nobodies shows how far the idea can go. Alva Sim’s voice sits over piano. Underneath, the guitar churns slowly and the drums hold a steady, slow pulse. Coming straight after the heavy opener, it is a sharp change of pace. It also shows the rhythm section can pull back as well as push.

Production was spread across three Texas rooms. They were Blue Rock Artist Ranch and Studio, Orb Recording Studios and The Finishing School in Austin. For a record that layers programmed parts, guitars and several singers, that spread makes practical sense. Even so, the album still holds together as one piece.

The Industrial and Art Rock Records That Sit Closest to This Dark, Story-Led Album

For reference points, three acts help. Killing Joke, formed in London in 1978, set an early template for this kind of record. Its heavy, droning guitar sat against Jaz Coleman’s keyboards and a pounding rhythm section. Later, Stabbing Westward carried a similar mix into 1990s American industrial rock. The band put programmed rhythms and synth loops under loud guitars, while Christopher Hall’s melodic vocals carried the choruses. Meanwhile, A Perfect Circle, the band Billy Howerdel formed with Maynard James Keenan, debuted with Mer de Noms in 2000. That record showed how slow-building art rock can keep its weight under a melancholic vocal. Razed by Rebels sits near all three, with a darker, story-led frame.

The album suits listeners who want guitars and electronics at equal weight. It also suits fans of dark wave and art rock that commits to a single idea from start to finish. Above all, it is a clear example of what an independent Austin project can build with a few studios and local singers.

Where to Hear Razed by Rebels and the Story That Runs Through Broken Paradigm

That story matters for how you listen. The album follows a central character through a conflict over deeply held beliefs, with a heavy price at the end. De Ochtendschijn recommended hearing the album as a whole rather than as separate tracks. That is sound advice. So start at Until It’s Over and let the nine tracks run in order. The shifts between heavy and quiet make more sense in sequence.

From the IndieRock.News Curator Team: “Save Heaven’s Gate for the end. The closer runs to almost four minutes. That gives the drums and guitars room to build into the most theatrical moment on the album.”
