The groove carrying light years apart (radio edit) has more in common with a late-night club than a rehearsal room. Unobliterated put the single out on 11 July 2025, working between studios in Portugal and the UK. Rather than pile on praise, three reference points place the record better.
Depeche Mode spent decades proving that a cold synthesiser and a warm vocal are not in conflict, and that the tension between them is where the feeling lives. So this single runs on the same contrast. The pads stay austere while the delivery carries the weight.
Pet Shop Boys made a career of putting genuine sadness inside music built for a dancefloor, never letting the beat apologise for the lyric. Unobliterated work that trick in a darker register, the club pulse continuing under a song about separation.
Placebo fit the guitar half of the equation. They were an alternative rock band who never treated electronics as a betrayal and moved between the two without announcing it.
