Four Players, Three Producers and One Mix Engineer Built the 2021 Tallinn Hard Rock Debut

No More Fridays describe their first album by its four parts. There is a honey voice spiked with red chilli, and bass riffs that rumble like thunder across dark seas. Behind them sit drums that keep dependable time and a fast-fingered guitarist they call a poodle-haired axe man. Who Needs Truth Anyway came out in October 2021, and this is how the Tallinn band put those parts together.

No More Fridays feature in the playlist below with Underdog, and their coverage to date is gathered on the No More Fridays profile. Who Needs Truth Anyway reached this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news titles. Press play on Underdog, then read on for the people who built the album.

The Four Parts of No More Fridays on Who Needs Truth Anyway, From Honey Vocals to Thunder Bass

The voice belongs to Kristi Täheste, and so do the words. When Postimees covered the band’s single Rain in 2015, it described a simple working method. Täheste walks into the rehearsal room with a song stuck in her head. Then the rest of the band helps her get it out. The paper also noted that the music comes from the whole group. She had also drawn attention the year before on the television talent show Superstaar.

The guitars come from Grigori Rõžuk, and so does the piano. The album credits list him on guitars, piano and backing vocals. Margus Pärnamägi plays bass. Henrik Heinmets plays drums and percussion, and he sings backing vocals as well. That gives a four-piece three singers, with the drummer adding a voice as well as the beat.

Two guests widen the circle. Endrik Salak sings on Alone, and Madis Kreevan supplied the sample heard on Make Out.

The band’s own tags pull in several directions at once: blues rock, grunge, stoner, punk rock and pop rock. Two reference points sit at either end of that list. Blues Pills, the Swedish band fronted by Elin Larsson, built their name on blues rock with a woman’s voice out front. Meanwhile, L7 brought punk bite to early-1990s grunge on Bricks Are Heavy. Judging by those tags, Who Needs Truth Anyway sits between the two habits. A track titled Kurt Cobain makes the grunge side plain.

The Estonian Engineers and Mix Engineer Shaping No More Fridays on Who Needs Truth Anyway

Recording began in August 2020. The album credits name three people for recording and producing: Keijo Koppel, Lennart Pihl and Endrik Salak. After that, Michael Eisenstein mixed and mastered the record.

Koppel has the longest list of credits. According to Discogs, he produced Katk Kutsariks for the Estonian folk metal band Metsatöll in 2019. Before that, he mixed their albums Ulg and Karjajuht. In 2019 he also mixed We Need To Talk by Siim Aimla Funk Band and Guard Your Nation by Revalers. So his range runs well beyond metal.

Salak brings a second heavy background. Discogs lists him as an Estonian multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and studio engineer who sings in the technical death metal band Surgent. He has also mixed releases by Paean and Grav Morbus. On this album he does two jobs, producing the record and taking the guest vocal on Alone.

So the people at the desk came largely from the heavier side of Estonian music. The band’s own tags, by contrast, lean towards blues, grunge and punk. In other words, the band’s rehearsal-room method met engineers with mostly heavy credits.

The singles show how the record took shape in public. No Midnight Blues came out on 13 November 2020. Within days it entered the MuusikaPlaneet reader poll as one of five newcomers. Time To Let Go followed on 15 March 2021. The full album arrived on 14 October 2021, with both singles on it.

Where to Hear No More Fridays Now, From Pain Before the Pleasure to No Midnight Blues

Start with Pain Before The Pleasure. At 6:16 it is the longest track on the album. On Spotify it is also the most played by a distance, with 8,193 plays. No Midnight Blues follows on 2,584, and the opener Underdog sits on 1,851. Those figures were read on 17 September 2026.

After that, go back to the top and play the ten tracks in order. You will finish on No Midnight Blues, the single that reached the MuusikaPlaneet poll almost a year before the album came out.

So this is a record for listeners who like hard rock with a blues streak and a grunge nod. It comes from a band whose guitarist also plays the piano and whose drummer also sings. Fans of Blues Pills and L7 will find the most to hold on to.

IndieRock.News curator team: “Who Needs Truth Anyway earns its place on our indie rock desk because the band cared about the object as much as the songs. Alongside the CD and the download, their first album came out on a red glitter cassette. That is the kind of detail a band only bothers with when the record really matters.”
